Everything you need to know about Disguise Chat's features, security model, and everyday usage.
After downloading the app, it will open as a standard calculator. To access the messenger setup, type the default secret PIN `1234=` into the calculator.
Yes. The calculator is a fully functional utility. You can use it for everyday math, and anyone looking at your phone will only see it operating as a standard calculator.
The core messaging and camouflage features are free to use. Premium features may be offered in the future, but basic secure communication will remain free.
No. We deliberately do not ask for a phone number or email address. You create an anonymous username and password, which generates a unique User ID.
Because we do not collect emails or phone numbers, there is no "Forgot Password" recovery process. If you lose your password, you will permanently lose access to your account and messages. Please keep your credentials safe.
Currently, usernames are permanent once created to ensure system stability and prevent identity confusion. You can always create a new account if you need a new identity.
Once logged in, go to Settings > Security > Change PIN. You can enter any numeric combination to serve as your new hidden key.
The Panic Code is a secondary PIN (default is `4321=`). If someone forces you to open the app, entering the Panic Code instead of your real PIN will instantly log you out and erase local data, while making it appear as if the app just crashed or failed to login.
If you forget your PIN, you cannot access the messenger interface from that device. You will need to uninstall and reinstall the app, which resets it to the default PIN, and then log back in using your Username and Password.
Because we do not sync your phone's address book, you must manually add contacts. Ask your friend for their exact User ID and search for them in the "New Message" screen.
Yes. You can securely send images and videos. Media sent through Disguise Chat is kept encrypted within the app and does not automatically save to your phone's public camera roll.
Currently, Disguise Chat focuses on high-security 1-on-1 messaging. Group chats may be introduced in future updates once we can guarantee they meet our strict anonymity standards.
Yes. All messages between users are end-to-end encrypted. This means only you and the recipient have the keys to read the messages. Disguise Chat servers cannot decrypt or read your conversations.
We practice extreme data minimization. We only store the encrypted message blobs necessary for delivery. Once delivered, messages can be set to self-destruct from our servers. We do not track IP addresses, location data, or contact graphs.
Your internet provider can see that you are connecting to our servers, but because all traffic is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS (and further end-to-end encrypted), they cannot see the contents of your messages or who you are talking to.
By default, push notifications are disabled to prevent the app from betraying its true nature. If you choose to enable them, they will appear disguised (e.g., "Math updates available") rather than showing message content.
Instantly. The moment the app is backgrounded, minimized, or your screen locks, the app immediately reverts to the calculator interface. There is no delay.
Disguise Chat is currently optimized for Android devices. An iOS version is in active development and will be released in the future.
Yes, because accounts are not tied to a phone number, you can use your Username and Password to log in on a secondary device.
Ensure you are appending the equals sign (=) if that was part of your PIN. If you have forgotten the PIN completely, you must uninstall and reinstall the app, then log in again with your username and password.
Check your internet connection. Since the app does not run aggressively in the background (to save battery and maintain stealth), you may need to keep the chat window open for a moment while messages sync.
Disguise Chat is for anyone who values their privacy and wants to keep their personal communications away from shoulder surfers, curious roommates, or invasive inspections.
Because messages are end-to-end encrypted, we physically do not possess the keys to decrypt them. We cannot hand over message contents because we cannot read them ourselves.
